Star Wars SE2 DVDs

"Star Wars is the Elvis of iconic sci-fi movies. Meaning both the young, hip-swivelling Elvis and the pathetic self-caricature doing Vegas. Thanks, George."
This nugget of gold and more on Lucas' changes to the original Star Wars films in their current DVD incarnation - the revised Special Editions - in this Metafilter discussion.

Aside from the image restoration and the reintroduction of the Han/Jabba meeting in Mos Eisley, Lucas & the ILM guys were meddling unnecessarily. Instead of messing with the end of Jedi (Hayden Christensen's Anakin appearing next to Obi-Wan and Yoda and the extended celebrations across the various planets that completely screwed up the scoring IMO) and changing Boba Fett's voice for example, why couldn't they go simple & subtle and fix up the optical effects like the boxes around the TIE fighters?
